JR Kyushu has begun demolition of their two stations at Aso’s Uchinomaki and Akamizu. Both are wooden structures built in 1918, and the quakes added to damage from natural aging. Local residents expressed regret at the loss of another of their memories and hope that rail service will be resumed soon.
