Mitsui Fudosan won a bidding contest for the privatization of Kumamoto Airport. Their plan is to remove the current terminal and replace it with one which will accompany both domestic and International flights (the latter now handled by a separate terminal). In April 2020, a temporary terminal to the east will open along with an annex to provide food and souvenir concessions. The new terminal is expected to open in the spring of 2023. That, along with the anticipated train link, will greatly improve Kumamoto’s International status. – William
