When America closed up its two military bases in Kumamoto, at Kengun and Camp Wood, they donated their books (Hemingway and Steinbeck and Scott) to the Kumamoto Prefectural Library in Oe. They are still there, in the closed stacks, but if you ask a librarian, you can have access and even borrow them. It is history meeting literature.
