William with another post on “where the water is.” Sadly, today I must introduce the town of Saltivka in Ukraine, which sounds much like Kumamoto: “Saltivka is on the edge of town next to a spring. I associate it with the smell of fresh grass; with water and a river. You have a strong attachment to somewhere and it becomes a wasteland, devoid of life. It’s better to move on.” I have lived with the smell of fresh grass and water for over 30 years in Oe and cannot imagine the heartbreak of seeing a lifetime of work and memories destroyed - in many cases (such as mine), generations - and being forced to leave. This evening, I contacted Corona, the company that makes inexpensive kerosene heaters, about donating to Ukraine. Russia has cut their natural gas supply and winter looms. I will let you know if I receive a response.
