Kirk here with an update on how pathogens in river caused illness in Amakusa:

It is only natural for them to flow into rivers and become a source of infection,” he said. — end quote —

If it weren’t for the spread of illness, increased numbers of wild animals would strike me as positive. It’s different phenomenon but I’m reminded of the increased trouble with bears being reported in northern Japan.
