Kumamoto City Zoological and Botanical Gardens has closed part of the grounds from 5 November 2025 for the ‘Savannah Area Development’ project, marking its centenary. Due to this construction, viewing of the ‘Masai giraffes’ and ‘African elephants’ will be unavailable until the end of fiscal year 2026 (planned).
