A note from the Well, Ya Learn Something New Everyday Desk: turns out there are two recognized volcanic belts in Kyushu: that running through the center of the island, called the Kirishima Belt, and that running along the west coast, called the Hakuzan Belt. Aso is clearly a creation of the former, but the origin of Unzen and Kimpo is more obscure. Interaction between the belts is possible.
