The headline indicates what is replacing a lot of so-called “squat” toilets. Come to think of it, from a Western perspective (or, at least from my perspective) Japanese toilets run the gamut – from toilets that struck me as “primitive” when I first came to Japan to the high-tech toilets described in this article. I recently took a short trip back to the U.S., and I have to admit that, after having gotten used to the “high-tech” toilets that are common in Japan, I found the toilets I encountered in the U.S. to be lacking. – Kirk
