Atsuko here with information about the new Kumamoto Airport. Damaged by the Kumamoto earthquake, it has been under construction for a long time, but is finally reopening. It seems to be easier to use for international and domestic flights, and there seems to be more space to spend time in the duty free shop and food and drink areas.
