The typhoon is now quite close. At this point, it looks like the situation will not be too serious east of the Amakusa area; it’s only a little windy in Kumamoto City. Early this morning, Amakusa City residents received a “prepare to evacuate” warning but no new evacuation statements have been issued since then. Various ferries in the Amakusa area have been canceled.
