Investigations into temporary housing have begun focusing on Mashiki and Nishihara. The article notes that over 9,000 houses have been rendered uninhabitable throughout the quake areas, including over 5,000 in Mashiki, representing about half of the entire town. A problem they face is a lack of clear information and continuing damage.
