If you click on the link, you should be able to see a video about what happened in Nishihara Mura. There are two things I would like to point out (both of which I did not understand until recently): First, analysis has revealed that Nishihara also experienced Shindo 7 (the highest level on the Japanese scale) when the big one hit a little after 1 AM on the 16th. Second, the Japanese headline for this report is that at least 60% of the homes in Nishihara completely collapsed (344) or were severely damaged (1087) and five people died.
Perhaps I’m not alone in finding that the scale of this catastrophe is so large it is taking more than a few days to come to terms with.
