Kirk here. The other day I expressed some concern about low levels of testing for Covid-19 in Japan. As a country, Japan is still having trouble gearing up to do more testing but I have some good news about Kumamoto relative to Tokyo. In Tokyo, as of April 21st (the most recent statistics I could find), 8,435 tests were conducted and 3,320 were positive – a whopping 39.4 percent! By contrast, in Kumamoto, the percentage of positives is just 1.7%. The percentage of positives is considered to be a measure of how bad the situation is. So, for now at least, I’m very glad to be in Kumamoto.
