While the rain may look light in your area at the moment, it is expected to get heavier with stronger winds as the day goes on. Avoid any dangerous locations and be prepared to evacuate to safety if necessary.
Some highlights from today’s KumamotoJET update:

Heavy rain warnings have been issued for the Kumamoto City Region, the Aso Region, and the Amakusa/Ashikita Region. A heavy rain advisory has been issued for the Kuma Region.

High wind warnings have been issued for the Aso Region, Amakusa City, and Reihoku Town. A high wind advisory has been issued for all other parts of Kumamoto.

Evacuation orders are in place for parts of Minamiaso, parts of Nishihara, parts of Aso City, parts of Uto, parts of Uki, parts of Yatsushiro, and parts of Kosa.

Evacuation advisories are in place for all of Ozu, parts of Yatsushiro, parts of Uki, parts of Uto, parts of Mifune, all of Kosa, all of Oguni, all of Takamori, all of Minamioguni, parts of Aso City, parts of Kikuchi, all of Ubuyama, parts of Misato, parts of Kikuyo, parts of Kumamoto City Higashiku and Kitaku, and parts of Mashiki.

There is hope that the Kumamoto to Yatsushiro local train route on the Kagoshima Line will be reopened today.

Highway buses have restarted between Kumamoto and Fukuoka. However, due to traffic in the Kumamoto City area, travel time has increased (Kyusanko estimates a 5 hour trip at the moment).

Flights are running to all domestic destinations served by Kumamoto Airport, however there are some cancellations still in place. Please confirm with your airline/the airport before flying.
